Style: Abstract
I have found that being immersed in the local landscape has a huge impact on the work I create. Out in all weather, the sketches I create portray the feelings and moods of the rugged and often majestic scenery of the peaks of Derbyshire.
These sketches become the inspiration for the art created in my garden studio. I will often incorporate them as collages onto wooden boards then using a mixed media approach, I try to capture those feelings of being out in the elements, of the sun on the landscape, wind in my hair, and rain within the trees.
The artist Joan Eardley was one of my earliest inspirations and the exhibition of her work entitled " A Sense of Place" resonates with me. My paintings capture the wild beauty of the coastline of Scotland, finding that "Sense of Place", stays in my mind as I experience and paint the beautiful scenery of Derbyshire. I try to capture that sense of place within my own work .
